The Youth Program of Centro Romero getting involved in various insightful community events.

This past month, youth from Centro Romero’s Youth Program have engaged in multiple programs sponsored by Unidos US, which is the largest Latin American advocacy nonprofit organization in the country, and a strong partner of Centro Romero. Recently, a delegation from Centro traveled to Denver, Colorado to represent the organization and their peers at the 2023 Cultura Aprendizaje Servicio Acción youth summit. There they were able to engage with other like-minded youth regarding service projects across the country.

Additionally, as participants in the Unidos US sponsored curriculum “Entre Mujeres”, high school girls from Centro Romero’s Youth Program were also recently able to attend the launch event for the book Latinas in Finance by author Imelda Rodriguez. Events such as these are integral to the mission of Centro Romero’s Youth Program in that they help youth find role models in the community and become inspired to follow their passions.

Additionally last month, representatives from Centro Romero joined Southwest Organizing Project in an event celebrating Community Navigator Day, which former Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot declared during her time in office. Ms. Lightfoot spoke at the event, commending Centro Romero and the many other Chicago community organizations for their hard work and determination, especially amidst the record influx of refugees into Chicago. The hard work that Centro Romero has put in to provide aid to the arriving refugees is yet another actualization of the mission of aid and compassion laid out by the late archbishop Oscar Romero.
