Staff Accountant
Job Summary:
The job of a nonprofit accountant is to help manage finances on behalf of a nonprofit organization or program. The Accountant will prepare and maintain financial records to track the organizations assets, liabilities, profit and loss, tax liabilities, and other related financial activities. This position will be directly under the supervision of the Executive Director or designee.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Monthly Accounting Related Services:
Review monthly disbursed checks and prepare monthly allocations
Post monthly cost allocation into QuickBooks system
Post monthly deposits into QuickBooks and bank reconciliations
Prepare monthly vouchers and reports with scanned supporting documents
Handle routine correspondences and communications with administration and program managers.
Quarterly Accounting Related Services:
Prepare quarterly financial reports
Reconcile general ledger and prepare reports for board & staff meetings
Attend quarterly board and staff meetings
Prepare quarterly financial reports for Program/Department management.
Annual Budgeting & Auditing Related Services:
Assist with developing and updating agency annual operating budget
Assist with developing and updating program budgets
Reconcile and close out year-end general ledger
Assist with annual and program audits
Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Knowledge of general financial accounting and cost accounting.
- Understanding of and the ability to adhere to generally accepted accounting principles.
- Ability to correctly prepare tax reports.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software, and accounting software.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, or related field, required.
- At least three years of related experience required.
