RECAP OF “DREAM FOR TOMORROW” — CENTRO ROMERO’S 2018 ANNUAL EVENT

On Thursday, October 4th, Centro Romero helped the immigrant and refugee community “Dream For Tomorrow.” With a keynote speech by Cook County Commissioner Jesus “Chuy” Garcia, our annual fundraising event festivities were hosted by Telemundo Chicago’s Hernan Fratto, in the beautiful Walnut Ballroom of Chicago’s Hotel Allegro.  With an opening speech by President of the Board of Directors, Sandra Arellano of Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, she spoke of the decades of history and support of Centro Romero and introduced 7th grader Dira Barajas, a member of our Dare 2 Dream program in our youth department.

Dira’s spoke of her future aspirations and how she’s on the way to achieving them through her help at Centro Romero and really correlated to the theme of the night.

Our Monsignor Romero Awardee for the evening with to Elena Segura, founder of Pastoral Migratoria along with our Community Leadership Award going to Organized Communities Against Deportation, an undocumented-led group that organizes against deportations, detention, criminalization and incarceration of black, brown and immigrant communities in Chicago and surrounding areas.

Festivities continued throughout the evening with our silent auction and raffle and ended with dancing under the original chandeliers from 1926.

Special thanks to Konica Minolta, Wintrust Bank, Comcast / Xfinity / Telemundo.

Our evening was a great success and we look forward to next year’s gala!
