Our Youth Highlights, an Empowering Domestic Violence Prevention Training and Advocating for Human Rights
Here at Centro Romero, we are committed to empowering the next generation of our community through our extensive Youth Programming. Over the summer, in partnership with The Actuarial Foundation, as well as Global Executive Council Services, Centro’s High School Youth Program engaged in a course covering financial literacy and responsibility. Programs such as these, made possible by our invaluable relationships with community partners, ensure that our youth are equipped with the necessary tools to succeed as they emerge into adulthood and become the leaders of tomorrow.
Additionally, our organization is constantly looking for ways that we can improve the services that we offer. Staff of the Centro Romero Women’s program recently participated in a six-week training course facilitated by The Network, a Chicago-based advocacy organization against domestic and gender-based violence. Our team members were joined by several members of Between Friends, another local organization dedicated to the same cause. This collaboration with other like-minded community organizations resulted in an incredibly productive discussion of how-to best support some of the most at-risk members of our community.
Finally, Centro Romero’s administration continues to forge partnerships with local elected officials, so as to best advocate for and support the population that we serve. As the numbers of new-arrivals from the US-Mexico border continues to grow in our city, Centro Romero would like to highlight the recent visit of Chief of Staff Nicole Granacki and Director of Neighborhood Services Angel Rubi Navarijo, both of the 48th Ward Alderwoman’s office. The entire meeting, which featured a tour of our offices and an explanation of the services we provide, was framed by a productive discussion of how our two organizations can continue to work together in order to best support the newest members of our Chicago immigrant and refugee community.
