MICHELLE WELTZ, CENTRO ROMERO’S BOARD OF DIRECTORS NEW VICE PRESIDENT

Michelle Weltz, our new Vice President of the Board of Directors, and a Board Member since 2019, is a Business Immigration Attorney and represents clients in various capacities before the Department of Justice, Department of Homeland Security, and the Department of State. She is a natural fit for Centro Romero, since she is of Mexican, Chinese and Swedish descent—a true citizen of the world. Michelle is the granddaughter of a Chinese orphan sent on a ship to Mexico, where he met and fell in love with Michelle’s grandmother.

They later emigrated to the U.S. with their four children, through Texas to their ultimate destination of Chicago. One of their daughters, Michelle’s mother, was a nurse tech at the University of Illinois Chicago when she met and fell in love with Michelle’s father, a Surgeon of Swedish descent. Michelle became passionate about immigration during law school, when she worked with victims of domestic violence and human trafficking at the Asylum and Immigrant Rights Clinic under Ave Maria School of Law. Afterward, she worked in the domestic violence division at the L.E.T. Courthouse in Miami and has become a devoted advocate of immigrants’ and women’s rights. Michelle learned about Centro Romero in 2019 and its programming through the dedication of our Board President, Michael Kasprzynski.
