Department Director
Adult Education
Full-time position
Starting salary: Commensurate with experience and agency guidelines – includes Health and Dental Insurance
The Adult Education Department Director will work under the supervision of the Associate Director to develop and implement the Adult Education Program in order to meet and further Centro Romero’s mission. This person will work collaboratively with the Management Team to implement the vision and strategic goals of the institution while overseeing and coordinating all classes conducted in the program, including providing support, materials and training as needed for instructors. The Program Director will hire and provide overall supervision of the program staff and volunteers and will work with staff to conduct necessary outreach for recruitment of participants, as well as supervise the maintenance of student and volunteer records and data entry. The Program Director will maintain contact with funders for completion and timely submission of necessary documents and reports. The Program Director will also ensure that Centro Romero participates in local coalitions and communicates with a wide variety of local agencies such as libraries, churches and other community organizations that provide services to the participants.
Grant Management:
• Draft proposals and budgets for all department programs: ICCB, SOS, and other funders
• Track expenditures and instructor hours according to grant contracts
• Ensure compliance with all department programs: ICCB, SOS, and other funders
• Attend meetings required by funders
• Seek out and apply for new grant opportunities in collaboration with the Resource Developer
Supervision:
• Interpret agency policies and program objectives to staff, volunteers and participants
• Collaborate with staff and instructors to develop and implement curricula and resources for use in the project
• Supervise the Outreach and Student Specialist, Transition Specialist, Spanish GED Coordinator, Program Coordinator, Lead Instructors, interns, AmeriCorps members, and all instructional staff
• Hire, orient, train and supervise instructors of English Language Acquisition, Citizenship, Digital Literacy, High School Equivalency/GED
• Observe and monitor all Adult Education instructors, conducting twice-yearly class observations with feedback for each instructor
• Provide team guidance through department-wide goal setting, capacity building, and instructional leadership, in addition to coordinating online classes
• Conduct and lead biweekly teacher meetings and weekly department meetings
• Coordinate all enrollment period activities and student assessment
Record Keeping:
• Coordinate the collection and interpretation of all data, including attendance, into the DAISI system and internal spreadsheets for purposes of report generation and program evaluation
• Coordinate program-related volunteer and participant recruitment and recognition events
Fundraising:
• Collaborate with the Resource Developer in the writing of government and non-public grant proposals
• Seek out new and innovative private funding sources
• Coordinate community-based fundraising events for the department
Advocacy:
• Work with other non-profits and community-based organizations to advocate for adult education
• Keep lines of open communication with local elected officials
• Coordinate letter writing campaigns when appropriate
• Coordinate and chaperone trips to Springfield for Legislative Awareness Day, among other advocacy events at the Capitol
Professional Development:
• Work with staff to develop individual professional development plans
• Seek out opportunities to increase knowledge of the field of Adult Education
Mandatory Job Qualifications:
• B.A. in Education or a related field
• Three years of experience in community education
• Three years of supervisory experience
Preferred Job Qualifications:
• Bilingual Spanish/English
• Grant writing and budgeting experience
