Tutor Job Description

Job duties:

Overall responsibilities for this position include direct service in an after–school program for children ages 6-18. The program works in a small group setting and focuses on English language acquisition, math skills development, recreation, leadership activities, and conflict resolution. The volunteers will work under the supervision of the Program Coordinators, Interns, and Youth Workers. Volunteer responsibilities include providing education, extracurricular services, and support for classroom learning. The minimum commitment for volunteers is 20 total hours. Schedules are flexible and are available from Monday to Thursday, 3:00-5:45 pm. Schedules are arranged with the Program Coordinator and the Program Assistant.

Specific responsibilities include:

· Arrive on time and do not forget to sign in AND sign out, or your day will not count.

· Offer helpful advice that will positively affect learning.

· Help the student complete academic work.

· Listen and follow directions from Youth Workers, Interns, and other staff.

· Help students to develop and reach realistic goals.

· Follow the guidelines of being a tutor at Centro Romero.

· Report interactions/observations with students as necessary to Youth Workers or other program staff.

Qualifications:

The volunteer tutor will attend all required pre-service and in-service training. A minimum commitment of 20 hours is required. Some experience working in community-based education is a plus. Individuals should be culturally sensitive and willing to work closely with students ages 6-18.
